The Flying Of Time

There is not a day that goes by that I do not think about when I was a young boy. My childhood was very interesting in so many ways. I was surrounded by love and diversity on every level. I had and still do have 3 parents that opened up the world to me before I actually traveled. When I was in my early teens, the first place that I went outside of North America was Bermuda. It was a mind blowing experience because it was something that I had never seen before. I literally had no reference to it. I could not understand how these people lived on an island that was so small that you could go from one end of it to the other in about an hour. This was fascinating to me. I was in complete awe! This is one of my many childhood memories.

I loved rollerskating when I was a child. Still to this day, I am amazed at how far my mother let me travel form my home to go to this place. It was about 1 hour to get to this place and I was  taking the bus and the train to get there. I have a friend that met there who I still talk to today. That was such a special time for me because it was when I got one of my first tastes of independence as a young man. Even going to middle school, I traveled about 1 hour in each direction to go to school. In all of my time going to that particular school, I almost never hung out after school with friends, because I had to be home before dark.

Music was very important to me when I was growing up. As I think back, it was probably as important to me as breathing. I just didn't really tell anyone. Even though, anyone who knew me could tell that I had such a passion for song and dance. It was all about Michael, Lionel, Prince, and Stevie. Those three led the pack for me. I assumed that they were all born with the natural talent that they exposed so effortlessly. In other words, I didn't actually think even for a second that I could do what they do. I never even once thought that any human being could make money doing something that looked so amazingly fun. I was so wrong and I am so fortunate to have been given a slow and gradual path through many facets of performance.

It seems like just yesterday I was singing and dancing aboard a cruise ship. From one audition in Atlanta, Georgia, I went on to sing and dance on 5 other ships in the next 4 years. I saw the world including, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Greece, and so many other incredible places. I met people daily, I listened to and learned other languages, I got completely immersed in my experiences. I had no idea that there was this kind of joyride outside of NYC. I truly feel like I have lived 4 lives sometimes when I think about it.

I could write for another two hours just jotting down my experiences in the past 10 years. It is true what they say about time flying when you are having fun. Time has been flying for me for about 20 years now. I just wanted to recognize the magic and the grace of it. I have acquired many hours of travel in many planes and many fine experiences that can never be taken from me. Just yesterday, I was in my teens and dreaming of how my life would turnout in the future, and now I can say that the road ahead looks even brighter. I am still a student. I am still open to learning. I am still a child inside. The voices inside of me tell me that I still have more ingredients to add to this soup of life. I am blessed beyond measure. Thank you for being here. It matters to me in a big way.
