The Unexpected Chronicles / MLK

If I had know that being an adult was going to be so challenging, I would have....well, I still would have become an adult anyhow. There are no ways around responsibility or the curve balls that make their way across your plate. I am truly in awe of how we can be tested to inevitably keep it moving and to find a better way to concur almost anything. Like Bruce Lee said, "You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot.Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend."

I could end this posting right there because that says it all. If you sit down and drum up a handful of crazy situations in your life that could happen, what would you do? Can you actually say you would mold to each situation and become what you need to be to flow with the outcome or the sting that may hit you when this situation lands on your doorstep? We are all human and for sure we do not know what will happen to us day to day on any level, however, we keep on showing up no mater what. Some would say that we don't have a choice either way, but we always have a choice and we always get challenged again and again without exception.

Today being Martin Luther King day, this post is quite appropriate because I am sure that this powerful man had no idea what would happen years later based on him stepping up and sending out this strong message of peace and togetherness. He only knew that he was passionate about this message and that he was willing to put his life on the line for it. I can only imagine how fired up inside he was and how exhilarating it must have been when thousands stood behind him in solidarity and so much clarity of strength. To live during this time must have been full of so much uncertainty for most people of color.

I spoke with my grandmother today and asked her some questions about the climate of this time and she told me that it was truly something that I could not understand. She explained that my experiences have been so very different from those times and that people forget to take that into consideration. I also asked her what the vibe was like in New York during this time. She explained that NY had always been quite progressive and that it was not felt here as much as in the Southern states.

In closing, I had to take a step back today as I pondered some of my own challenges and think about how much MLK endured. Could I have gone out and spoken to thousands of people and stood for such a worthy cause that would affect millions of people in the future? I believe that I could have, but I also believe that I still can. We have to take our individual talents and multiply them outward as much as we can. Your gift is your gift. Not even one person can mirror match it on any day of the week. So what are you waiting for right now? If it's comfort ability, grab some food and a good book, because you will be sitting there for quite a while to come. I have learned over and over again that moving when we are a bit uncomfortable creates more situations that we are extremely comfortable in later on. I am heeding my own advice as I write this, just as a side note. I am a messenger, not as of yet a master. Let's get this rolling!!! All my best energy to you. I know that you deserve it.
